Javier Velez Death;– A man who drove a vehicle that collided with a parked car, resulting in the death of an 8-year-old boy from Philadelphia who was sleeping inside, has admitted guilt in connection with the incident, according to authorities.
On February 27, 2025, Edward Johnston, 25, from Galloway Township, entered a guilty plea to charges of aggravated manslaughter related to the crash that occurred on July 23, 2023, which claimed the life of Javier Velez, aged 8.
Investigations conducted by the police indicated that Johnston was under the influence of alcohol and was traveling at a speed of 107 miles per hour westbound on White Horse Pike in Absecon when he struck the rear of the parked vehicle containing the young boy.
At the time of the accident, the boy’s father and brother were fishing just outside the vehicle. Johnston is set to be sentenced on May 13, 2025, and his plea agreement stipulates a prison term of 15 years, as reported by officials.
