Jared Masseur Arrested; – Police have disclosed the identity of the officer from Bedford, New Hampshire, who was shot during an altercation early Saturday morning. The officer has been named as 24-year-old Officer David Benway-Fongemie, according to the Bedford police department.
At approximately 12:53 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to a report of a suspicious individual at the Country Inn & Suites located at 250 South River Road. Upon their arrival, two officers, including a K-9 unit, initiated an investigation. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Jared Masseur of Nashua, attempted to flee the scene on foot.
When officers tried to apprehend Masseur, he resisted arrest and engaged in a physical confrontation with them. During this struggle, a firearm was discharged as Masseur reached for Officer Fongemie’s holster in an attempt to seize his service weapon.
As a result of the altercation, Officer Fongemie was shot in the leg by his own firearm. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and later released, and he is now recovering at home. Officer Fongemie was appointed to the force on September 9, 2024.
Jared Masseur faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest or detention, being a felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, attempting to take a firearm from a law enforcement officer, and second-degree assault. He is currently being held without bail and is set to be arraigned on Monday at Merrimack District Court.
