Jared Devin Rose Obituary, Death; – A South Carolina Department of Transportation employee was tragically killed on Tuesday morning when a loose tire from a truck struck him. The incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on US 15, roughly 12 miles north of Saint George.
According to Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers, the victim, identified as 24-year-old Jared Devin Rose, was standing on the shoulder of the highway when a tire detached from a passing 18-wheeler and hit him.
Rose was declared dead at the scene. Officials from SCDOT reported that Rose began his career with the agency in 2024, serving as a surveyor in Dorchester County.
“Today’s tragedy serves as a poignant reminder of the risks faced by our frontline workers who strive to enhance the lives of South Carolinians. Jared’s legacy and his dedication to our state will be remembered. This is an immense loss, and I urge everyone to keep his family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers this evening,” stated Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol, along with the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office, is conducting an investigation.
