James Robert Myers III Obituary, Death – On September 9, 2023, James Robert “Jim” Myers III passed away at the age of 80. He was a veteran of the Cold War who served in a submarine during that conflict. On March 27, 1943, he was brought into this world by his parents, James Robert Myers, Jr. and Geneva Hall Myers, both of whom have since passed away. Mr. Myers attended the Liberty Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and was a veteran of the United States Navy who retired with the rank of E8 Senior Chief Petty Officer.
He served in the Navy for a total of 22 years. Additionally, he had a career in the armed forces. Jim was also a member of two more submarine groups, the Nathanael Greene Submarine group and the Tarheel Base Submarine group. Both of these units operated out of Tarheel Base. In addition to spending time with his wife and children, Mr. Myers enjoyed working with wood, making jokes about his spouse, and tormenting his young children. Rhonda Street, the man’s daughter, as well as both of his parents and both of his grandparents all gone away before he did.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years Libby Myers; children Randy (Rebecca) Myers, Rene’ (Jeff) Armstrong; grandchildren Clay Street, Ethan (Amber) Street, Amber (D.J.) McDowell, Katie (Curtis) Royal, Bo Armstrong, Aylissa Armstrong, Gabe Myers, James Warren, Laura Warren; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters Louise Simmons, Pat Simmons; brother Sam (Patsy) Myers. In 1962, Jim served aboard the USS Grenadier (SS-525), and by the time he left the Navy in 1974, he had attained the rank of GSCS(SS), which is the equivalent of a qualified submariner. He served his country in the United States Special Volunteer Infantry (USSVI) at the Nat Greene Base.
