James Honey Obituary, Death; – A bar in Glenwood has announced plans to enhance its security following the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man from Tinley Park outside the venue early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at Chug-A-Lug Pub & Grill, located at 18409 S. Halsted St., where Glenwood police responded around 1:30 a.m. to find an individual who had sustained gunshot wounds.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office has identified the victim as James Honey, residing on the 6800 block of Hickory Street. He was declared dead at 1:38 a.m. at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, with an autopsy scheduled for the following day.
According to police reports, a confrontation erupted between Honey and another group in the parking lot of Chug-A-Lug as he and his friends were departing the bar.
Currently, no suspects are in custody, and the Glenwood police are receiving assistance from the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force in their investigation.
In a statement released on Sunday, Chug-A-Lug emphasized that it already has security protocols in place, including security personnel and a “strategic closing procedure to ensure a safe dispersal of our customers.” The establishment expressed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its patrons and staff, noting that this incident marks the first of its kind at their location.
The three-level bar, which opened in 2022, acknowledged the community’s concerns stemming from this event and assured residents that it is taking all necessary measures to further improve security. The business stated, “We are fully cooperating with the Glenwood Police Department in their ongoing investigation and are committed to providing them with any information they may need.”
Chug-A-Lug also expressed its dedication to engaging in discussions and contributing to initiatives aimed at addressing and preventing violence within the community.
Glenwood Mayor Ron Gardiner remarked in a statement on Sunday that “this tragedy is unacceptable and has no place in our community or any other.” He mentioned that he has been in communication with the business owners regarding the situation.
