The Routt County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal off-road highway vehicle (OHV) accident as 88-year-old James G. Floyd. The accident occurred on Wednesday on a property near Pagoda in West Routt County, Colorado.
Coroner Mitch Locke stated that the details surrounding the cause of the accident remain unclear. Emergency personnel from multiple agencies were dispatched to the scene on Wednesday morning after an individual discovered Floyd’s OHV overturned and submerged in a body of water on a property along Routt County Road 29.
According to emergency dispatch communications, the vehicle had reportedly been submerged for approximately 1-2 hours before first responders arrived. Upon arrival, they immediately began life-saving measures, including CPR, which was administered for around 40 minutes.
The accident took place in a remote area of unincorporated Routt County, south of Hayden and southeast of Craig, near the Pagoda neighborhood. The location’s isolation presented challenges for emergency response teams trying to reach the scene promptly.
