Jamarr Thompson Obituary, Death; – Delaware State Police have confirmed the identity of the 19-year-old man who was shot in Wilmington last week and subsequently succumbed to his injuries several days later. Jamarr Thompson passed away on Friday after being shot near East Lea Boulevard and Route 13 (North Market Street) at approximately 4:30 p.m. on February 19.
An initial statement from the state police indicated that he had died at the scene, but a correction issued on Thursday evening clarified that he was in critical condition at that time. As of around 1 p.m. on Friday, when state police announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with the incident, Thompson was still reported to be in critical condition, according to law enforcement officials. The exact time of his death on Friday remains unclear.
Troopers responded to the scene on East Lea Boulevard near Route 13, where they discovered Thompson severely injured and initiated first aid. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital by paramedics, as reported by the police.
During the investigation, detectives determined that Thompson had been dropped off at Advanced Auto Parts, located at 4200 N. Market St., by a Hyundai Santa Fe. He was walking towards a residence on East Lea Boulevard when he was shot.
Following the shooting, authorities stated that Darmond Green, who is believed to be the shooter, fled on foot towards the rear of the Advanced Auto Parts parking lot, where he was picked up by the Hyundai before departing the area. The circumstances surrounding his location prior to Thompson’s drop-off at the auto parts store remain unclear.
On Thursday, Wilmington police executed a traffic stop on the Hyundai, leading to the arrest of Green and a 20-year-old woman, who is accused of assisting Green in disposing of evidence following the shooting.
Green faces charges including attempted murder, multiple firearm offenses, tampering with physical evidence, and conspiracy, all classified as felonies. The woman has been charged with tampering with physical evidence, hindering prosecution, providing false information to law enforcement, and conspiracy, all of which are also felonies.
Green is currently being held in custody with a cash bond exceeding $1 million, while the woman was released on an unsecured bond by a Justice of the Peace magistrate. State police announced on Monday that the charges against Green would be elevated due to Thompson’s death.
