Jacobi Jones Death; – A mother from Maryland is grieving the tragic loss of her 4-year-old son, who was reportedly killed by his father on Christmas Eve amid a domestic altercation.
Jacobi Jones, aged 4, lost his life in their Rosedale, Maryland home during what authorities described as a “domestic-related assault,” which also resulted in injuries to his mother, Promyss Marcelle, and his 1-year-old sister, as reported by Baltimore County police. The victim was referred to as Jacobi Sa’Fiir Marcelle in his obituary.
While the police statement did not specifically name Promyss Marcelle, she was recognized as the mother in a GoFundMe campaign and by various news organizations, including 11 News, that interviewed her.
Jacobi’s father, 30-year-old Mark C. Jones, allegedly shot himself during the incident but survived; he was subsequently arrested in connection with the event, as announced by police on December 29.
According to charging documents referenced by CBS News and WMAR 2, the incident began on Christmas Eve morning when Jones reportedly entered Marcelle’s room around 6 a.m. and initiated an argument. Jacobi requested his father to leave the room, but Jones allegedly retrieved a handgun from a backpack and began loading it, according to police reports.
Marcelle, who was lying on the bed with her children, then “heard a ‘boom’ and felt the back of her shirt become wet, causing her to fall to the floor,” as detailed in the charging documents. In the wake of this tragedy, Marcelle is honoring her son’s memory by advocating for awareness regarding domestic violence.
“Even if you feel [lonely] or wish to create a family… it is not worth it,” she expressed in an exclusive interview with 11 News. “[T]ake my story; now that I have been compelled to leave, I no longer have my son,” she added.
During a community walk organized to promote domestic violence awareness, Marcelle reminisced about Jacobi’s enthusiasm for Christmas, as reported by FOX 45 News. “He was eager to open the presents, but I kept telling him he had to wait until Christmas. Unfortunately, he never got to open those gifts,” she shared. “But I am committed to keeping my son’s memory alive.” She described Jacobi as someone who would “light up a room.”
