Jacob Davis Obituary, – A man from Belleville has been taken into custody and charged in relation to a collision that resulted in the death of a driver in Roxbury. Morris County Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood, Morris County Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Roxbury Police Chief Dean Adone made the announcement. Gerald Veneziano, aged 41 and from Belleville, has been accused of reckless vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal car crash that happened on May 31, 2024, in Roxbury.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office was informed of a two-vehicle collision on Howard Boulevard in Roxbury at around 10:30 p.m. on May 31. An investigation revealed that a northbound 2021 Chevrolet Silverado crashed into a southbound 2019 Mazda 3. The driver of the Mazda, Jacob Davis, aged 19 and from Flanders, was declared dead at the scene. Veneziano was the driver of the Silverado. He was rescued from the Silverado and taken to Morristown Medical Center with severe internal injuries.
Several open alcohol containers were discovered near the Silverado. Subsequent investigations showed that the Silverado was traveling at around 90 miles per hour at the time of the accident. Following the investigation, Veneziano was charged on June 21 with one count of second-degree reckless vehicular homicide and several motor vehicle violations. Under the criminal justice reform act, Veneziano was released from the Morris County Correctional Facility under a set of non-monetary bail conditions, including surrendering his driver’s license and undergoing alcohol testing.
The next court appearance is scheduled for a pre-indictment conference on July 29, 2024, before Judge Claudia R. Jones. The investigation was carried out by the Roxbury Township Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
