Isaiah Bias Death; – On Monday, friends and family will gather to pay tribute to the Ellis County detention officer who lost his life due to an incident involving an inmate while on duty last week. A memorial service is scheduled for Officer Isaiah Bias. At the age of 28, Bias dedicated nearly seven years of service to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.
The memorial will take place this morning at the Midlothian Conference Center, commencing at 11 a.m. The community is encouraged to participate in the service. Sheriff Brad Norman expressed that he has known Officer Bias since he was approximately 14 years old, having first met him during his teenage years in the Explorer program, where he was aspiring to enter law enforcement.
Bias departed from the sheriff’s office in 2016 to pursue a degree at Navarro College. He returned and was elevated to the rank of corporal in detention services in 2022. As the eldest sibling in his family, Bias had recently become an uncle just one week prior to his untimely death.
Statements: “Officer Isaiah Bias embodied the principles of Ethics, Leadership, Loyalty, Integrity, and Service,” remarked Sheriff Norman. “His legacy will continue to motivate us all. We are profoundly appreciative of the community’s support during this challenging period.”
According to investigators, 45-year-old Arron Thompson was admitted to jail last month facing three counts of assault on a public servant and evading arrest. He was held in solitary confinement for 23 hours each day.
An arrest warrant affidavit for Thompson indicates that when Officer Bias approached him to return him to his cell, Thompson struck him, causing him to fall. Thompson then allegedly proceeded to choke Bias and assault him with his fists, knee, and foot. Thompson now faces charges of capital murder. Future Developments: The decision on whether this case will be pursued as a death penalty case rests with the district attorney.
