Isaac Cannon Obituary, Death; – Isaac Cannon, a 20-year-old resident of Rancho Cucamonga, has been identified by his family as the individual who was fatally shot by police in Pomona late Monday night. His family expressed their profound sorrow over the incident.
According to investigators, the tragic shooting took place near the intersection of Murchison Avenue and Stratus Drive in Pomona shortly after 10:05 p.m. The incident was prompted by a 911 call from a bystander who reported a gunman pursuing two men. Officers from the Pomona Police Department promptly responded to the area.
“The caller indicated that she observed an individual chasing the men through the residential area behind me, where construction is ongoing,” stated Lt. Michael Modica from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.
“They encountered a person matching the description provided in the 911 call, who was armed. During the encounter, the individual produced a firearm, leading to an officer-involved shooting,” Lt. Modica explained.
Cannon was struck by gunfire from the police and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the event. Investigators reported that a handgun was recovered from the scene, and the officers involved were equipped with functioning body cameras.
His family shared that he was employed as a mechanic technician at Caliber Collisions and was characterized as a “hard-working young man” by his mother, Rochelle Cannon, at the site of the investigation. Family members informed NEWSCHAIN that they believe he was a victim of a robbery and had been pursuing the two men involved in the incident prior to the arrival of the police.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide investigators are collaborating with the Pomona Police Department to investigate the police shooting.
