Irma Moreno Obituary, Death; – A 30-year-old man from west El Paso has been apprehended by police on suspicion of being the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 64-year-old woman in the Lower Valley.
On December 19, authorities arrested German Duarte and charged him with “collision involving death” following an extensive search that lasted several weeks, during which they solicited tips from the public.
Investigators believe that on the evening of December 5, Duarte was operating a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer that was traveling at a high speed on North Loop when it collided with a white 2000 Toyota Corolla that was executing a U-turn.
As a consequence of the collision, the driver of the Corolla, identified by authorities as 64-year-old Irma Moreno, was ejected from her vehicle. It is believed that Duarte exited his SUV, which had come to a stop a short distance from the scene of the accident, and fled on foot. Immediately following the incident, Moreno was transported to the hospital, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries.
Investigators have determined that the crash was attributed to two primary factors: Duarte’s alleged excessive speed and Moreno’s purported failure to yield to oncoming traffic while making the U-turn. The incident occurred on the 7300 block of North Loop, in proximity to the Hawkins intersection.
