(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Good Sunday Morning! A frigid start this morning, with temperatures in the teens and 20s to start the day. Wind chills are in the single digits in the mountains.
High temperatures this afternoon will climb into the low to mid-40s, with increasing clouds through the day. Anticipate a few passing showers for the Charlotte metro area this afternoon and evening.
We are tracking a strong area of low pressure to our west, which will bring winter weather to our mountains and foothills today and tonight.
Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for Ashe and Watauga counties. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for Avery, Burke, and Caldwell counties as well.

Wintry weather will begin in the mountains this afternoon, with a few rounds of sleet and snow. The better chance for more widespread wintry weather will come later this evening and tonight, with a higher chance for freezing rain along our eastern-facing slopes.
Spots like Boone and Jefferson could receive ice accumulations up to 3 tenths of an inch. While areas like Morganton and Lenoir could see anywhere between a glaze of ice to 1 tenth of an inch in ice accumulations. Be prepared for slick travel in the mountains tonight and into Monday morning, along with some isolated slick spots across the foothills. Everyone will switch over to a cold rain after sunrise on Monday morning.
Expect a widespread cold rain to start the day across the region on Monday, with heavy rainfall possible at times. On Monday afternoon, Conditions will improve, with drier conditions building in towards Charlotte. However, wrap-around snow will build back into our mountain counties during the afternoon and evening on Monday. This could bring an additional 2-4 inches of snowfall to our western-facing slopes.
More sunshine and drier conditions through the middle of the week, with highs in the 40s and overnight lows in the 20s.
There is another potential storm system that could bring wintry weather to the Carolinas by Friday and into Saturday of this week. There is still a lot of uncertainty on what to expect with that system, as the track of the associated low-pressure system is very unknown. We will keep you updated throughout the week!
