(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Bitter cold temperatures will kick things off this morning as overnight lows have plummeted into the teens and twenties. Winds out of the north will add an extra bite to the air making for a wind chill in the low 20s in uptown and single digits in our mountain counties.
The Winter Weather Advisory for Ashe, Avery, & Watauga counties will expire at 9 AM with the Wind Advisory for the same counties expiring earlier at 6 AM.
Mountain counties will struggle to get out of the 20s today while uptown peaks in the mid-40s. Winds will flow out of the north between 5 and 10 miles per hour as skies stay sunny through the afternoon.
Tonight will be cold again as lows bottom out in the low 20s heading into Wednesday. We’ll see a pattern of chilly days and frigid nights through the end of the week.
Friday brings the potential for some winter weather as models become more consistent on showing the potential for snow Friday morning. This currently looks to be short-lived and quickly transitioning into rain for the afternoon but we certainly will be honing in on the forecast as Friday approaches.
As of right now, be on the lookout for the chance of a slick morning commute on Friday morning and a cold and wet evening commute to finish off the week. Saturday morning will hold on to some lingering wet weather before we dry out later in the day.
Highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s will continue through the end of the weekend into early next week.
Today: Clear & Cold. High: 44.
Tonight: Mostly Clear & Frigid. Low: 22
