Howard Springs Car Accident – Following a deadly collision in Howard Springs on Tuesday night, 38-year-old man has been taken into custody by Northern Territory Police. At the scene of the collision, a male biker, age 31, passed away. Major Crash detectives’ investigations revealed that there was another vehicle involved in the collision. Authorities will claim that the motorcycle rider died as a result of the crash into the back of a Toyota utility. The utility driver drove on till he pulled over in Pinelands so he could check his car.
After arriving back in the Northern Territory, the man was taken into custody Friday night at Darwin Airport. He is now facing charges of failing to report the crash, hit and run causing death, and failing to stop after the crash. Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner stated, “After being involved in an accident, not stopping.” This was the third military disaster on Australian soil in less than a month, resulting in injuries to defence servicemen from Timor Leste and Australia when a Bushmaster vehicle crashed in the Northern Territory.
According to NT Police, at approximately 9 p.m. on Wednesday, there was a single-car collision in Howard Springs, which is approximately 30 km southeast of Darwin, involving a military vehicle. The Australian Army Protected Mobility Vehicle, or Bushmaster, was involved in the collision, according to confirmation from the Department of Defence. “The driver of the utility continued driving before stopping in Pinelands to inspect his vehicle.” On Friday, police detained the man at Darwin Airport.
A police statement stated that the motorcycle rider attempted to pass another car “at high speed” and lost control of Whitewood Road just before it intersected with Howard Springs Road. This is what caused the crash. A 38-year-old male driver of a Toyota ute that was also involved in the collision has been identified and charged. Police stated in a statement that they thought the ute’s driver had failed to stop after the motorcycle had crashed into the rear of the vehicle. “Police will allege that the motorcyclist crashed into the rear of a Toyota utility, resulting in the rider’s death,” added the statement.
