Donna’s journey began on April 14, 1948, in Sheldon, IA, where she was born to Erwin and Lenora Wenndt. Donna was adopted and raised with love by her parents. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. After graduating from Lowden High School in 1966, Donna attended Stewart Beauty Academy in Davenport for a year. On March 3, 1968, Donna married the love of her life, David Sander, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. Shortly after their marriage, the adventurous couple moved to Alaska, where Dave was stationed with the Army. Donna worked as a beautician in downtown Fairbanks during their time there. Two years later, they returned to Lowden and embarked on a 20-year journey of farming together. Throughout their union, they were blessed with three children.
Donna dedicated 29 years of her life to serving the North Cedar Community School District before retiring. She cherished her family above all else and found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren. Donna’s interests included camping, cooking, gardening, and being on the farm. She was also passionate about sponsoring 29D and supporting her grandchildren in their sporting events and other activities.
Donna is survived by her loving husband, Dave Sander, of Lowden; three sons, Doug (Sara) Sander of Rock Island, Dan (Colette) Sander and Dean (Kelly) Sander of Clarence; seven grandchildren, Hannah, Blake, Colin, Austyn, Kayla, Olivia, and Jaxon; and her brother, Denny Wenndt of Lowden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother-in-law, and an infant grandson.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Lowden Rescue, Clarence Ambulance, Tipton Ambulance, and the staff at UIHC for their unwavering dedication and compassionate care during Donna’s illness.
