Highway 99 Accident Today; Police Investigation Ongoing: Drivers heading towards Richmond via the George Massey Tunnel were advised to seek alternative routes on Wednesday morning due to an anticipated major delay caused by a crash. The Delta Police Department issued a warning around 6:45 a.m., indicating the closure of northbound lanes on Highway 99 preceding the tunnel.
“The closure will remain in effect for several hours. Avoid the tunnel, consider Alex Fraser or Pattullo bridges,” urged the warning.
Although one northbound lane reopened by 7:30 a.m., drivers were still cautioned to steer clear of the area. Cpl. Dave Noon of the DPD emphasized on social media, “Expect significant delays,” adding, “There is no anticipated time for reopening.”
Authorities summoned the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services team to the scene. No specifics regarding the number of individuals affected or potential injuries were disclosed by the DPD.
