Hector Rena Obituary, Man killed by 18-wheeler after exiting truck to retrieve fallen items
The victim has been identified by authorities as 62-year-old Hector Rena.
The incident is still under investigation.
A man is dead after being struck by an 18-wheeler along a Southeast Side highway in San Antonio.
The fatal accident happened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday along Southeast Loop 410 near East Southcross.
Police said the man was driving a truck when he lost the load he was hauling. After he got out to pick up the trash, police added cans fell out and he ran to pick them up. One big rig stopped to let him retrieve the trash cans, but another 18-wheeler swerved to avoid hitting that big rig and unfortunately, hit the truck driver.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The highway is closed for the next several hours for cleanup and investigation.
Avoid the area if possible.
