The tragic incident that occurred early Sunday along a rural highway in north-central Minnesota involved alcohol, according to the State Patrol.
Two individuals lost their lives, while three others sustained critical injuries in a head-on collision.
The driver of a pickup involved in the deadly crash, identified as 32-year-old Kyle Daniel Jones of Bayport, was among those critically injured.
Jones, along with his passenger, 30-year-old Mandy Tellinghuisen of Bayport, and the passenger in the other vehicle, 53-year-old Kelly Kuschel of Pine River, were rushed to St. Joseph Hospital in Brainerd with life-threatening injuries.
The other driver, 39-year-old Royal Noe of Hillman, and one of his passengers, 40-year-old Heather Cevallos of Brainerd, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The State Patrol has chosen to withhold the name and medical condition of the second passenger in the vehicle until Monday morning.
