Joliet police are conducting an investigation after a woman and her husband, who had been estranged from her for some time, were found stabbed to death on Saturday morning in what seems to be a murder-suicide. After receiving reports that a woman had been stabbed in the street, Joliet police officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Pandola Avenue shortly after 11 a.m., as stated by the Joliet Police Department.
An officer found a woman who was 35 years old laying in the roadway with several stab wounds to her chest. The police arrived at the site shortly after the officer arrived. The body of a man who was 32 years old and had sustained several stab wounds to his chest was discovered lying on the ground in a driveway that was located nearby. During the preliminary inquiry, the police discovered that the man was the woman’s long-lost husband, and that the couple was in the midst of filing for divorce at the time of the incident.
The man is said to have visited the woman at her residence, where he produced a commotion that prompted the woman to flee the house. The police say this occurred before the stabbing. After then, the man, who was armed with a kitchen knife, allegedly pursued the woman, according to the reporting of the officers. The man allegedly stabbed the woman multiple times in the chest after he caught up with her on the street close to the residence, as stated by the police.
Following the stabbing, the man allegedly stabbed himself multiple times in the chest before falling in the driveway of the woman’s residence, according to witnesses who disclosed this information to the police. Loved ones identified the woman as Haley Covarrubias.
Both were transported to the hospital, where it was later determined that they had passed away. Officers were able to find the couple’s kid, who was present at the residence throughout the event and was three years old at the time. The Department of Children and Family Services was contacted by the authorities due to the fact that he was not injured.
On the basis that the event appears to have been targeted and related to domestic matters, the police have stated that there is no threat to the community. According to the authorities, the Will County Coroner’s Office will be the one to determine the identity of both of the people who were slain as well as the manner in which they passed away.
The inquiry into the incident that resulted in death is still ongoing.
