Hailey Miller Obituary, Death;- A suspect is currently in custody following the tragic deaths of a 19-year-old woman and a 2-year-old boy in an apartment in West Haven on Saturday night, as reported by the police. “This is a deeply tragic situation,” stated West Haven Police Sgt. Scott Allard. “Such incidents are not commonplace.”
Officers responded to an apartment complex on Meloy Road shortly before 9 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of loud screaming and yelling emanating from one of the units. “Subsequent calls indicated that a male had jumped through a second-floor window,” Allard noted.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered that both the woman and the toddler had been fatally stabbed within the apartment. “Many of our officers have young children, so this incident resonates deeply with them,” Allard remarked.
The police sergeant indicated that the suspect had exited through the window but was apprehended by officers on the walkway. He is currently in police custody at a hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.
Allard mentioned that authorities believe the victim and the suspect were in a relationship, and the toddler was the suspect’s son. The victim, identified by her family as Hailey Miller, was a devoted mother to a young child.
Miller is remembered fondly as a compassionate individual, a vibrant spirit, and a diligent mother who will be sorely missed. Neighbors expressed their shock and sorrow over the incident.
“The fact that this occurred right next to our apartment is frightening,” said Moss Hanley. “It is truly sickening to think it involved a woman and a child,” added Ben Hanley. West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer issued a statement expressing her condolences, stating, “The violent loss of a woman and a young child is a horrific tragedy, profoundly sad, and simply evil. Our community’s thoughts are with the family and friends who are grieving.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation to understand the circumstances leading to the stabbings and are expected to release the names of the victims and the suspect shortly. Allard conveyed a message to the community, urging vigilance: “If you reside in a close-knit complex and hear screaming or disturbances, please take action.”
