In a statement released on Tuesday, the Delta Police Department identified the victim as 29-year-old Gurvinder Uppal, a resident of the area, who passed away in the hospital.
The shooting occurred at a residence located in the 8100 block of 112B Street, a neighborhood in proximity to McCloskey Elementary School, at approximately 7:15 a.m., as reported by the police. Authorities have indicated that a white Ford pickup truck fled the scene following the shooting and was subsequently discovered ablaze in the 7300 block of Blake Drive.
Delta police stated in a news release that they believe the burning vehicle is connected to the shooting investigation, highlighting that both the shooting and the vehicle fire exhibit characteristics associated with the ongoing gang violence in British Columbia.
