As reported by the Baton Rouge Fire Department, authorities apprehended Guadelupe Roberto Torres, aged 75, on charges of aggravated arson on Sunday, December 22.
Officials indicated that he ignited materials in his living room earlier that same day. Firefighters arrived at the scene of the fire at a duplex located on Wyoming Street shortly before 7 p.m., where they reportedly found Torres. The fire, which was quickly extinguished by the crews, resulted in damages estimated at approximately $5,000.
Torres was taken into custody at the scene after an investigator concluded that the fire had been deliberately set in an occupied duplex, thereby posing a considerable threat to human safety, as stated by the fire department.
