Gregory Wayne Gardner Obituary, Death;- A multi-vehicle accident occurred early Tuesday morning in Ector County, resulting in the death of one man and serious injuries to another.
As reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety, at approximately 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, law enforcement officers responded to a collision involving multiple vehicles at the intersection of West University and Mercedes Avenue in Ector County.
Investigations revealed that 22-year-old Roberto Hernandez from Weslaco was operating a GMC Sierra in an eastbound direction on University while towing another vehicle. Simultaneously, a Toyota Rav4, driven by 60-year-old Gregory Wayne Gardner of Odessa, and a BMW operated by 30-year-old Laura Ivonne Galindo of Midland were traveling westbound.
Authorities indicated that Hernandez lost control and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with Galindo’s vehicle. Subsequently, the towed vehicle struck Gardner’s Toyota Rav4. It was reported that Gardner was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Galindo sustained serious injuries and was transported to Odessa Medical Center for emergency treatment, where she is currently in critical condition. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities have yet to ascertain the reasons behind Hernandez’s deviation into oncoming traffic. Further information is awaited.
