Gregory Conroy Ingrassia Obituary Death; – A man who was fatally struck by a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit train in San Rafael on Monday afternoon has been identified by the Coroner Division of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
The tragic incident involving a pedestrian occurred around 3 p.m. on the railway tracks close to the intersection of North San Pedro Road and Los Ranchitos Road, as reported by the sheriff’s office. Initial investigations revealed that the train engineer noticed the individual, later identified as 54-year-old Gregory Conroy Ingrassia of San Rafael, on the tracks and activated the emergency brakes and warning horn in an effort to prevent the collision.
Ingrassia was hit and sustained blunt force injuries after authorities indicated that he did not move away from the path of the oncoming train. Following the incident, he was found unconscious and unresponsive, with emergency responders declaring him deceased at the scene.
The sheriff’s office stated on Tuesday morning that the cause of the collision is still under investigation, and no definitive conclusions have been reached. Standard toxicology tests will be conducted alongside a forensic postmortem examination. The investigation is being carried out by the San Rafael Police Department in conjunction with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
