Chaos erupted on Saturday evening as a Metro-North rider was stabbed in the chest following an argument over loud music on a fellow passenger’s phone. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on a New Haven line Metro-North train as it pulled into Grand Central Terminal, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department (MTAPD).
The confrontation began when 46-year-old Abdul Malik Little, playing music through his phone’s speaker, clashed with a 31-year-old passenger who objected to the noise. The situation escalated when Little stabbed the younger man twice in the chest.
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to exit the train at Grand Central, where he identified Little to patrolling police officers. The officers apprehended Little without resistance and recovered the knife used in the attack.
The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Abdul Malik Little, a resident of Jamaica, NY, now faces charges of Attempted Murder, Felony Assault, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, the MTAPD reported.
Rise in Violence at Grand Central
This stabbing marks the second violent incident at Grand Central Terminal in less than two weeks, reflecting an unsettling rise in crimes both on commuter rails and underground.
On Christmas Eve, suspect Jason Sargeant allegedly slashed a man on the wrist and a woman in the neck during a chaotic rampage through the terminal, according to the NYPD.
Earlier, on December 22, a horrific incident on the subway left 57-year-old Debrina Kawam dead. She was set on fire by an illegal Guatemalan migrant at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue stop. The suspect, 33-year-old Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, allegedly ignited her clothes, fanned the flames, and watched as Kawam succumbed to her injuries. Zapeta-Calil has since been indicted on **first- and second-degree murder** charges and **arson** and is set to appear in court on January 7.
