A Mercedes sedan collided into a stone wall, which had a huge sign, in front of Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School at 220 Sandwich Road in Bourne, which resulted in the death of a 23-year-old man from Falmouth and left a 28-year-old man from Falmouth in critical condition.
According to a press statement issued by the Bourne Police Department, the collision involving a single vehicle took place at approximately 3:22 AM on February 15. Officers from the Bourne police department discovered the vehicle completely engulfed in flames. According to the police, the vehicle was heading in a westerly direction on Sandwich Road when it suddenly veered off the roadway to the left and collided with a stone wall.
“When the first two Bourne Police Officers arrived on the scene, they immediately realized that the driver of the vehicle was likely stuck inside. “Officers were able to pry open the driver’s door and, using fire extinguishers, knock down the flames just enough to extricate the operator,” said the police.
The officers then became aware of the presence of a second individual occupying the front passenger seat. As the Bourne Fire and Rescue Department got on the scene, the officers established that the vehicle had no more occupants after they had successfully freed the passenger who was trapped inside. After the firefighters had completed putting out the fire, they assisted the Sandwich Fire and Rescue Department in providing medical care to the vehicle’s driver and passenger before transporting them to local hospitals for further treatment.
According to the authorities, “unfortunately, the operator did not survive his injuries.”
