MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Fayetteville man was caught after being tracked by GPS, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
On March 2, a driver on US 74 was reportedly spotted speeding and driving recklessly, weaving through traffic and nearly causing a crash.
A UCSO deputy tried to stop the car, but the driver, 31-year-old Dequan Lester of Fayetteville, did not stop, leading to a high-speed chase into Monroe.
Lester got away, but deputies had already gotten his license plate number. After looking up the plate, deputies found out that the car had a GPS installed by its owner.
A Monroe Police officer tracked Lester to a parking lot nearby and he was arrested. Lester is charged with felony flee to elude arrest and is being held in the Union County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
