Geronima Florez Monte Alto, TX Death: Authorities have identified the victim of a tragic dog attack that occurred in Monte Alto on Friday as 85-year-old Geronima Florez. The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the emergency call at approximately 6 p.m. on the 22000 block of Jesus Flores Road, where they found Florez suffering from severe injuries.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, Florez was discovered with significant bleeding from her neck and the left side of her head. Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The attack was reported to involve a black pitbull mix breed dog. Initial reports from the sheriff’s office indicated that two dogs were present at the scene. During the incident, Florez was attacked by one of her own dogs while feeding it. Her brother intervened, shooting and killing one of the dogs.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office clarified that the second dog was recovered and was not involved in the attack. The dog that was shot and killed by Florez’s brother was the sole aggressor in the tragic incident.
