Germain Charles Death — Nerlande Germain-Charles was named as the person who passed away after being a victim of a deadly stabbing in Evansville by the coroner for Vanderburgh County. Germain-Charles, age 25, passed away on Wednesday after allegedly being stabbed to death by her husband, Fenel Germain, inside of an apartment located in the 1600 block of Michigan Street.
Germain, age 27, was taken into custody by the Evansville police department on Wednesday evening. According to the documents filed in the court, he has subsequently been charged with criminal murder. Wednesday afternoon, at approximately 3:30, law enforcement personnel were dispatched to an apartment on East Michigan Street.
Germain-Charles was reportedly seen laying in a slouched position against a door when authorities arrived at the site. Additionally present at the scene were Germain and two of his children. According to the reports of the police, both children have been handed over to the custody of the Indiana Department of Child Service.
Officers took Germain into custody and brought him to the EPD headquarters for questioning, as stated in an affidavit that was signed under oath. Germain-Charles was sent to a Deaconess Hospital, but she did not survive her stay there and passed away. According to the findings of the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office, Germain-Charles died from multiple injuries caused by sharp force.
After a verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation, Germain is believed to have claimed under questioning that he stabbed his wife in an act of self-defense. According to reports, Germain-Charles had multiple stab wounds as well as laceration wounds, all of which investigators from the EPD determined to be defensive in character.
Wednesday evening, just before 9 o’clock, Germain was arrested on one preliminary count of felony murder and taken into custody in the Vanderburgh County jail. According to the records from the court, the judge who presided over his initial appearance ordered that he be detained without bond.
