George A. Smith – On Wednesday, March 21, 2024, George A. Smith, who had been a resident of Reading in the past and had reached the age of 90, passed away in a peaceful and tranquil manner while he was receiving care at Laureldale Nursing and Rehabilitation Facilities. During his lifetime, he lived in Wernersville. M. Pearl Stewart, who passed away in 2015, was his life partner. He worked with her for many years.
For the entirety of her existence, she had been there with him. The fact that he was born in Reading does not change the fact that he was the son of Daniel J. Smith and Marguerite M. (Seyler) Smith, both of whom have since passed away. George worked for the Reading Water Authority for sixteen years, and during that time he held the post of supervisor until the year 1975, when he finally retired. Furthermore, he served in the National Guard as a member of the military.
Over the course of twenty-eight years, he served as a Sexton at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where he was also a member of the church. George was the sole proprietor of the S & B Arco Garage in Temple, which he owned jointly. In his personal time, he enjoyed nothing more than watching baseball games featuring the St. Louis Cardinals and drinking a beer that was of decent quality.
The other things that he enjoyed doing included spending time with his family, who frequently visited him right up until the moment he passed away, as well as playing golf and pinochle with his friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends. The cats that George loved so much are now waiting for him on the other side of the rainbow bridge. George had a profound fondness for them over the years.
George’s family consists of his brother, James R. Smith, who is married to Kathleen; four nieces and nephews whom he loved as if they were his own children: John Reed (and his wife Janet), Andrea Reed, Kathy Layman (and her husband Scott), and Debbie Ioannidi (and her husband Dino); seven great nieces and nephews; and eight great-great nieces and nephews respectively. George’s family also includes his brother’s wife, Kathleen.
To everyone, he was the uncle who was the most respected and looked up to. His older siblings, Gloria Briedegam and Daniel J. Smith, Jr., had already lived and passed away prior to his arrival on the scene. When it is most convenient for them, George’s family will be able to take advantage of the opportunity to hold a private celebration of his life.
