George Dorris-Rodgers,Daniyjah Staple Obituary, Death; – The Champaign Police Department has initiated a homicide investigation following the deaths of two teenagers and the injury of two other individuals in a shooting incident early Sunday morning. Officers responded to the scene at Cynthia and Anita Drives at 12:34 a.m., where they found several people with gunshot wounds.
The victims received medical attention from the police and Champaign Fire Department personnel before being transported to a nearby hospital. One victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. According to police interviews, a gathering in the parking lot of an apartment complex was disrupted by gunfire, resulting in four victims and a vehicle being struck. Two 18-year-olds from Champaign, a male and a female, sustained severe injuries. The man was shot in the chest, while the woman was shot in the leg and torso.
Both individuals were later pronounced dead at the Emergency Department of Carle Foundation Hospital. The deceased victims were identified as George Dorris-Rodgers and Daniyjah Staple by Champaign County Coroner Stephen Thuney. Two other victims, a 15-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman, were also injured but are in stable condition at the hospital. The Champaign Police Department has not made any arrests at this time and is continuing to investigate the incident.
