Geohaira Sosa Death – We wish to express our deepest condolences to the Sosa family on the passing of Dr. Geohaira Sosa, who was a psychiatry resident physician at UC Davis and was in her first year of practice. Geo was only two months into her residency when she was taken from this world in a tragic accident. She was bursting with excitement to begin a new chapter in her life, as she had just recently relocated from the East Coast to the state of California. Our community is in a state of disbelief and grief as a result of this devastating loss.
On the inside as well as the outside, Geo was an absolutely stunning individual. Everyone who came into contact with her couldn’t help but notice her warmth and kindness right away. She left a profound impression on the lives of her fellow interns and colleagues during the brief period of time that she was with us. Those individuals who had the opportunity to become acquainted with Geo over the course of the past few months experienced a unique connection with her; many of them had already come to regard her as a close friend. She was exactly the kind of person who made you feel visible, heard, and valued. She was that kind of person.
Geo exuded happiness, kindness, and genuineness in equal measure. Her very presence shone like a bright light in the world of medical residency, which is notoriously difficult at times. Whether she was encouraging a patient, laughing with a coworker, or simply being herself, Geo’s spirit brought a sense of warmth and belonging to those who were in her immediate vicinity.
In the midst of our sorrow over this tremendous loss, we are also brought back to the remarkable impact that Geo had in such a short period of time. All of us will continue to be inspired by her legacy of compassion, empathy, and genuine connection; she left behind these qualities. It is our hope that her spirit will be carried forward in our communities, and that we will make sure that her light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and through the actions that we take.
