An accident involving a motorcycle claimed the life of a 66-year-old man and occurred on Saturday afternoon in Union County. At 5:42 p.m., the collision occurred five miles south of Beresford, South Dakota. According to preliminary information on the collision, Gene J. Eli, the rider of a 2004 Kawasaki VN750 motorbike, was travelling southbound on Interstate 29 when, for reasons that are not known, the motorcycle veered off the left side of the roadway and into the median.
When the motorcycle crashed into the median, the rider was thrown from the vehicle. In spite of the fact that he was not wearing a helmet, he sustained severe injuries. Eli was put in an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive his injuries and passed away there.
There were no other vehicles involved in the collision, and it is thought that neither speed nor alcohol played a role in the incident. At this time, the South Dakota Highway Patrol is looking into the collision. There is no final information that has been made public at this time.
