Gabriella Gonzalez Obituary, Death; – A 23-year-old man in Texas has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 26-year-old girlfriend, who he choked and shot in front of several witnesses after discovering that she had traveled to another state for an abortion. On Monday, Dallas County Criminal District Judge Chika Anyiam imposed the life sentence on Harold Lavance Thompson for the 2023 homicide of Gabriella Gonzalez, as indicated by court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
Following a trial overseen by Judge Anyiam, a jury found Thompson guilty of one count of murder. He has been credited with 636 days of time served. As previously reported by Law&Crime, Dallas Police Department officers responded to a shooting incident on the evening of May 10, 2023, at an address located in the 800 block of Walton Walker Boulevard. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered an adult female, later identified as Gonzalez, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gonzalez’s sister informed investigators that she had seen her sister and Thompson walking together shortly before the shooting occurred. She noted it was “odd” for her sister to be walking, as Gonzalez had been driving a rental car at that time. After passing by them, the sister heard gunfire and, upon looking back, saw her sister lying on the ground.
Another witness, whose identity was not disclosed in court documents, reported to police that they observed Thompson placing Gonzalez in a “choke hold” just prior to the fatal shooting. This witness attempted to assist the victim but was unable to do so. Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage from nearby buildings, which reportedly captured Thompson and Gonzalez walking together moments before the incident. The footage allegedly shows Thompson attempting to place Gonzalez in a choke hold, but she managed to shrug him off before the situation escalated.
