(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Wednesday morning starts off frigid with low 20s and teens locked in from our mountains into uptown. Bundle up for what will be another cold morning and chilly afternoon as this blast of cold continues to impact the Carolinas.
Sunny skies return despite highs only peaking in the mid-40s during the peak heating hours of the day. Winds will be light out of the west-northwest between 5 and 10 miles per hour with mountain counties seeing a little bit more of a breeze.
Look for another night with freezing temps as we plummet into the upper teens for uptown and low teens for areas north of I-40 heading into Thursday morning. We’ll continue to peak well below normal as Thursday rebounds into the low 40s.
A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day will be active for Friday & Saturday as a low-pressure system tracks out of the Gulf of Mexico and aims for the Carolinas Thursday into Friday. Rain looks to move in late morning or early afternoon on Friday before transitioning into Snow towards the evening commute.
Be on the lookout for snow to transition into freezing rain around midnight along the I-85 corridor and stretch as far north as the I-40 corridor by 4 AM. This will leave a glaze of ice on power lines and trees which can lead to spotty power outages and further complicate travel.
The main threat from this storm will be the overnight freezing rain. This will leave behind icy conditions for Saturday morning as temperatures only peak in the low 40s. Sunny skies will finish the weekend with 40s lasting through early next week.
Today: Clear & Cold. High: 44.
Tonight: Mostly Clear & Frigid. Low: 19.
