A tragic crash north of Las Vegas claimed the life of a German motorcyclist, identified as 63-year-old Fridolin Peter Theodor Peters, according to Nevada State Police. The crash occurred on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at approximately 4:56 p.m., along Interstate 15, approximately three miles south of Mesquite.
Peters, who was riding a 2024 Harley Davidson Classic, lost control of his motorcycle while traveling northbound. Authorities said Peters failed to maintain his lane, drifted to the left and collided with a concrete median barrier wall. The cause of the crash remains unclear at this time.
After the collision, emergency responders transported Peters to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Peters was a resident of Steinfurt, Germany and was reportedly enjoying a drive on the scenic Nevada desert highways when the fatal crash occurred. The Nevada State Police Traffic Homicide Unit has opened an investigation into the crash, working to determine any contributing factors.
This tragic incident marks part of a troubling trend in 2024. The Nevada State Police Southern Command has investigated 52 fatal crashes, resulting in 60 deaths so far this year. However, authorities note that these figures are preliminary and may be revised pending further investigation and medical examiners.
Motorcyclists are encouraged to use caution when navigating Nevada highways, especially due to the state’s often unpredictable road conditions and high-speed traffic.
The investigation into Peters’ crash is ongoing.
