WESLEY CHAPEL, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Florida man was arrested in Union County over the weekend after being accused of fraudulently purchasing tires and reselling them online.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Luca Ascherman-Slavin of Boca Raton, Florida, was a suspect who allegedly purchased new tires from a local automotive parts store using stolen credit card information. After the purchase, the suspect then began attempting to resell the tires via Facebook Marketplace to other unsuspecting victims.
Deputies and detectives investigating these offenses were able to set up a meeting March 23 with Ascherman-Slavin to purchase the fraudulently obtained tires. The suspect was greeted in a Wesley Chapel parking lot by a host of UCSO employees, who took him into custody without incident.
Ascherman-Slavin was charged with numerous felony offenses, including:
- Obtaining Property by False Pretenses,
- Identity Theft, and
- Financial Card Fraud.
He was taken to the Union County jail under a secured bond of $50,000. He has since been able to post bond and is no longer in custody.
Sheriff Eddie Cathey commends all the Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division personnel involved in identifying this suspect and making this arrest for sending a clear message to this suspect that his criminal acts will not be tolerated in Union County.
