U.S — A customer at the Nike store on Whittier Boulevard on Sunday captured video of two thieves swiping merchandise from the store while it was still daylight outside. According to the statements made by the authorities on Friday, six people have been detained in connection with the audacious theft of products worth $1,000 from a Nike store located in East Los Angeles.
ABC7 was informed by a representative for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department that they were successful in apprehending two adults and four minors later on. Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the California Highway Patrol were able to take the suspects into custody on Wednesday afternoon, according to a post that the department made on social media. Photos that were uploaded on Instagram show a red SUV that was stopped on the 710 Motorway for an investigation.
It took some time before the identities of the adults were made public, and the names of the other suspects were concealed due to the fact that they are underage. The surveillance tape shows two individuals stealing shoes and other products worth approximately $1,000 while racing out of the store while carrying garbage bags. There were no reports of any injuries.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, this particular store has been a weekly target of criminal activity. Candice Lopez, a resident of Alhambra who was doing her shopping at the store on Tuesday, reported that she had seen a similar occurrence occur not too long ago, in which robbers ran away from the establishment carrying bags full of stuff that they had stolen. “They booked it and went down the alley, and I’m like wow, that’s crazy,” she added. “They went down the alley after booking it.” “It’s a bummer because, you know, both you and I work really hard for our money so that we can provide the things that our children require. Because I raise my child by myself, it can be challenging. And then to see people doing stuff like that, it irritates the hell out of me.
The incident took place after a group of approximately thirty individuals stole more than $300,000 worth of products from the Nordstrom store located within the Westfield Topanga mall. They all evaded capture by disguising themselves and making a hasty getaway.
