Fire Accident: Roanoke Fire-EMS Reported Eight Apartments Damaged After Kitchen fire in Wasena Neighborhood
ROANOKE, Va
—Late on Thursday night, Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a structure fire in the Wasena neighborhood.
Roanoke Fire-EMS reports that at approximately 10 p.m., crews were dispatched to the 800 block of Wasena Ave SW in response to a kitchen fire on the apartment complex’s fifth floor.
Eight apartments have been damaged, according to firefighters, and it’s still unclear how many neighbors will have to be moved.
Firefighters said there have been no reports of casualties and that the fire was accidental.
Crews were alerted to a probable structure fire in the 800 block of Wasena Ave SW at 10:01 PM. Upon arrival, our A-Shift team discovered a kitchen fire on the apartment complex’s fifth floor. With speed, the fire was put out and restricted to the original chamber. Eight apartments suffer water damage from the sprinkler system or fire damage. While they examine each unit, crews are still on the site collaborating with the Red Cross to estimate the number of residents who may need to be relocated.
There were no reported injuries, and the cause was unintentional.
