Fernando Alvarez Obituary, Death; – The identity of a pedestrian who lost his life in a crash in east Topeka early Sunday morning has been made public by the police.
The Topeka Police Department (TPD) has confirmed that the victim is 26-year-old Fernando Alvarez, a resident of Topeka. His death represents the second fatal pedestrian incident in the region within a month.
Authorities responded to reports of an injury collision involving a pedestrian shortly after midnight on December 8, in the 2500 block of Southeast Adams. Upon arrival, officers discovered that Alvarez had been struck and killed by a vehicle traveling southbound. The area was cordoned off for several hours to facilitate the investigation.
Previously, on November 20, another pedestrian fatality occurred in the same vicinity, with 72-year-old Emmett Leatherwood of Topeka identified as the victim.
