CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A felon wanted on multiple assault, drug and firearm charges, who exchanged fire with Charlotte officers before he was killed, has been identified.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said on Friday evening, March 7, officers were attempting to serve arrest warrants on 28-year-old Reggie Allen Knight.
Knight was wanted on several charges including: assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault on a female, communicating threats, resisting a public officer, possession of firearm by a felon, and possession of methamphetamine.
Knight also had charges filed out of Iredell County including driving while impaired (DWI) and driving while license revoked.
Dozens of officers swarmed the northeast Charlotte neighborhood on Friday evening in the 12000 block of Headquarters Farm Road in response to shots fired while serving the warrants.
CMPD said law enforcement was attempting to serve the warrants on Knight when responding officers reportedly perceived an imminent deadly threat and fired their service weapons.
Two CMPD officers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following the exchange in gunfire. Knight was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative, per protocol, CMPD said.
CMPD and the Internal Affairs Bureau are conducting separate but parallel investigations. Knight had a lengthy criminal history including second-degree kidnapping and larceny in Union County.
