Felicia Hudson Obituary-Death News; SMC Custodial Operations Manager Felicia Hudson Has Passed Away
We regret to inform you of the tragic news that Felicia Hudson, our colleague and Custodial Operations Manager at Santa Monica College (SMC), was shot and killed on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the SMC Center for Media and Design.
Felicia was taken by emergency personnel to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her wounds at around 5:00 p.m. on October 16. Felicia’s family, friends, and loved ones have our sincere condolences and prayers.
We are speechless by the loss of a colleague who gave this organization unwavering devotion and passion for almost thirty years. While we attempt to make sense of this horrifying act of workplace violence, the institution is offering grief and crisis counseling to both staff and students. SMC will be analyzing this occurrence in detail in the next days.
The Santa Monica College Foundation has created a legacy fund at foundation.smc.edu/felicia-hudson(opens in new window) in cooperation with Felicia’s family. On Thursday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m., there will be a sunset vigil on the Main Campus Quad in her honor. On Friday, October 18, at 10 a.m., there will be a Celebration of Life at the Eli & Edythe Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center.
Information (opens in new window) indicating that the suspect in this event was taken into custody by the police near El Segundo Blvd. and Aviation Blvd. in the City of Hawthorne was issued by the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) yesterday. He had shot himself in the head and was discovered dead inside his car. Detectives from the SMPD determined that Davon Durell Dean, an employee of SMC, was the likely shooter.
