According to a GoFundMe page created for his family, the man who died in the incident on Friday in Virginia Gardens has been identified as Fabian Giovanni Camero. Fabian, 28, was the son of Francisco Camero, a member of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. He was actively pursuing a career as a firefighter, following in his father’s footsteps.
The GoFundMe page described Fabian as a courageous and dedicated young man who was passionate about serving and protecting the community, just like his father. It acknowledged Francisco’s unwavering strength and commitment to helping others, even at great personal risk. In this time of unimaginable pain, the page appealed for support to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with such a heartbreaking event.
The training exercise took place inside a building near Miami International Airport in Virginia Gardens. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and a team of international firefighters were involved in the exercise. Tragically, during the exercise, a man sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Miami-Dade Police have confirmed that the deceased individual was indeed Fabian Camero, as confirmed by his father Francisco. However, Francisco declined to provide further comments.
Aerial footage captured by Chopper 6 showed smoke billowing from the three-story building on the day of the incident. Multiple Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews swiftly responded, utilizing ladders to access the roof and breaking windows to gain entry. Over 30 rescue vehicles, including engine trucks and ambulances, were dispatched to the scene.
