Eunikue Roberson Obituary, Death; – A man has been arrested by Gary Police in relation to a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl from Gary early Saturday morning.
According to Gary Police Commander Jack Hamady, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:51 a.m. on January 4 to the intersection of 5th Avenue and Madison Street following reports of a potential hit-and-run. Upon arrival, they discovered a significant amount of debris in the roadway near the intersection, as well as a teenage girl lying on the north side of 5th Avenue with severe injuries.
Additionally, an electric motorized scooter was located in the roadway. The Gary Fire Department confirmed the girl was deceased, prompting notifications to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the Gary Police Crime Scene Unit, and the Hit and Run Investigators. Witnesses reported that the vehicle involved in the incident had fled the scene prior to their arrival, leading investigators from the Hit and Run unit, the Real Time Crime Center, and Investigations to commence their work at the scene.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Eunikue Roberson, residing on the 1600 block of 11th Avenue, as stated in a release. A search warrant was obtained and executed at a location where the suspect’s vehicle was confiscated, resulting in the apprehension of a man. Gary Police are expected to file charges with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office within the week, according to Hamady.
