Ernestina Eumaña Álvarez,Christian Gutiérrez Obituary, Death; – A tragic incident occurred on a Kansas highway on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of a woman from Minneapolis and her infant, while ten others sustained injuries due to a van towing a trailer that overturned, leading to a two-vehicle collision, as reported by authorities.
The Kansas Highway Patrol indicated that the van was heading south on Interstate-35 in Sumner County, located south of Wichita, when it overturned and was subsequently impacted by another vehicle traveling in the same direction.
Ernestina Eumaña Álvarez, aged 58, and her newborn son, Christian Gutiérrez, both residents of Minneapolis, lost their lives in the accident. Among the injured were seven individuals from the van, including a 55-year-old man from Circle Pines and a 63-year-old man from Minneapolis, both of whom were outside the van at the time of the crash and are believed to have sustained serious injuries, according to the report.
Additionally, a 67-year-old woman, a 47-year-old man from Richfield, and 27-year-old Rosa Gutierrez, identified by family as the infant’s mother, were hospitalized with serious injuries. A one-year-old boy from Minneapolis and a 64-year-old woman from Richfield suffered minor injuries, as stated by the patrol.
The three occupants of the Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in the incident—a 63-year-old man from Kansas, a 61-year-old man from Oklahoma, and a 23-year-old woman from Kansas—were also reported to have minor injuries.
The cause of the van’s overturning has not yet been determined by the patrol. Family members have reported that Rosa Gutierrez remains in critical condition. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with her medical expenses and to facilitate the return of the deceased victims’ bodies to their hometown in Mexico.
