Emily Jane Long Death: Emily Jane Long, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away at her home in Georgia on August 28, 2024, at the age of 72. Emily was known for her deep love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Born on January 15, 1952, in Atlanta, Georgia, Emily’s life was marked by a commitment to education and service. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in education and dedicated over 35 years to teaching in the public school system. Her passion for learning and nurturing spirit touched the lives of countless students.
Emily was a devoted mother to her children, Sarah and Michael, and a proud grandmother to Emma, Jackson, and Lily. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and the comforting aroma of her famous Southern cooking. Emily’s love for her family was evident in the care she took in creating joyful memories and meaningful traditions. An active member of her local church, Emily served as a Sunday school teacher and was involved in numerous community outreach programs. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with comfort and strength.
In her free time, Emily enjoyed gardening, reading, and creating beautiful flower arrangements. Her generosity extended to her neighbors and friends, as she often shared her floral creations and baked goods. Emily is survived by her children, Sarah Long (John) of Atlanta and Michael Long (Rebecca) of Savannah; her grandchildren, Emma, Jackson, and Lily; her sister, Margaret Thompson of Marietta; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Katherine Long, and her brother, Robert Long.
A celebration of Emily’s life will take place on September 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church’s Children’s Ministry. Emily Jane Long’s legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
