Ejaash Carter,Lonnie Harley Obituary, Death;- A bus driver for Miami-Dade Transit has resigned during the process of termination following an incident in which he allegedly shot and killed two passengers in Miami Gardens, as confirmed by officials on Saturday.
The driver has been identified by an MDT spokesperson as Oshane Griffiths.
According to police reports, Griffiths, 30, denied entry to a man attempting to board the bus on Sunday morning near the intersection of Miami Gardens Drive and Northwest Seventh Avenue, as he suspected the individual was carrying a stolen Citi bike.
When the passenger reached into a bag, the bus driver opened fire, injuring both him and another passenger, as stated by authorities. A witness informed Local 10 News that the second victim, an innocent bystander, was likely struck by a stray bullet.
Miami Gardens police indicated that Griffiths was taken into custody for questioning but had not been charged as of Saturday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Ejaash Carter, 46, and Lonnie Harley, 44. The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the shooting incident. MDT has stated that bus drivers are prohibited from carrying firearms while on duty.
