Edward Pettifer Obituary, Death; – Prince William conveyed his profound shock and sorrow on Saturday regarding the death of Edward Pettifer, the stepson of his former nanny, who lost his life in the New Year’s truck attack in New Orleans, which resulted in 14 fatalities.
The Metropolitan Police of London confirmed on Saturday that they are providing assistance to the family of the 31-year-old Pettifer, including support in the process of repatriating his body to the United Kingdom. Pettifer, a resident of west London, has been identified as the last victim of the incident.
In a social media statement, the Prince of Wales expressed that he and his wife, Catherine, were “shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettifer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pettifer family and all those innocent individuals who have been tragically affected by this horrific attack.”

Pettifer was the stepson of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, who served as the nanny for both William and his brother, Prince Harry, from 1993 to 1999, including the period following the death of their mother, Princess Diana, in 1997. Legge-Bourke, also known as Alexandra Pettifer, was frequently photographed alongside Diana. Reports from British media indicate that King Charles III is also deeply saddened by the news and has extended his condolences to Pettifer’s family.
In a statement, Pettifer’s family expressed their devastation at the news of his death, describing him as “a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend to many.”
“We will all miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their loved ones due to this terrible attack,” the family added. The U.K.’s Foreign Office has also stated that it is supporting Pettifer’s family and is in communication with U.S. authorities. Authorities have reported that 14 individuals lost their lives, with approximately 30 others injured.
