Edgar Rios-Meraz Obituary, Death; – A woman has passed away as a result of a collision involving a police vehicle. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Edgar Rios-Meraz from Satanta, according to crash logs from the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The 64-year-old driver of a Suzuki Celerio sustained severe injuries in the incident that occurred on Cleator Moor Road in Whitehaven on Sunday morning and has since succumbed to those injuries in the hospital.
The officer driving the Cumbria Police car, a male in his twenties, sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening. An investigation has been initiated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
A spokesperson for the IOPC stated, “Following a referral from Cumbria Police regarding the incident on Sunday, we commenced an independent investigation this morning. Investigators have started to look into the circumstances surrounding the collision.”
Detective Chief Superintendent David Ashton expressed, “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the woman who has tragically passed away. The constabulary will provide full support to the IOPC’s independent investigation to determine the complete circumstances of this incident.”
